Working Out at the Downers Grove Rec Center
The Downers Grove rec center is the envy of communities throughout the region.
The facility is nearly 70,000 square feet in size and offers numerous opportunities for the residents of Downers Grove, as well as visitors and guests, to exercise and spend time with one another.
The community spaces and facilities in the rec center are top-notch.
There are multipurpose rooms available to rent for community activities or private parties, and supporting equipment (including audiovisual equipment) that can be rented along with a room.
There is also a childcare center for rec center users. There is even a “rotating art display” that helps to provide local artists with the opportunities to showcase their works.
But where the Downers Grove rec center really shines is in the area of its fitness facilities and equipment.
For court sports, there is a nearly 20,000 square foot gym that can be configured into three regulation size basketball courts or six regulation sized volleyball courts or 16 badminton courts.
Suspended above the gymnasium, along its perimeter, is a three lane 1/9 of mile walking and running track.
The fitness center, which recently rebranded itself as “4500 Fitness”, is one of the cleanest and best maintained fitness facilities in the area.

Many of the machines also have personal viewing screens, if you like to watch television while working out.
The weight room in 4500 Fitness has free weights that will work for most types of workouts, and the facility is reasonably priced.
The resources at 4500 Fitness and the Downers Grove rec center are reasonably priced, and there are staff members who can assist you with basic fitness related questions.
These facilities provide athletes with an excellent opportunity to conduct much of their training activities.
But competitive athletes are likely going to need a little bit more. Having that little bit of “extra” can be the difference between success in competition and failing to reach your potential.
