Downers Grove Longshots – Baseball Club
The Downers Grove Longshots are a successful travelling youth baseball league that prides itself in player development.
From 9U through 18U, the Longshots is a premier program with many team accomplishments including 2 Connie Mack World Series berths and multiple regional and state championships.
Many players go on to play at Division I colleges, and the 2011 team had four players drafted by the MLB out of high school.
Avoiding the business aspect that many travelling baseball programs are built around, the Longshots stand out by not selectively recruiting just all-stars, but giving any hardworking young athlete the chance to contribute to a team while improving their play through committed coaching and training programs.
Colleges and pro scouts recognize the character-building “roll up your sleeves” environment that doesn’t exist in other travelling leagues full of cherry-picked players.
The Downers Grove Longshots are community-based and dedicated to all of their players – not just the stars – with the goal of making each and every player the best baseball player they can be.
Downers Grove Longshots Keeping To Their Roots
Each summer, alumni return to Downers Grove to play the graduating high school team, and a few return as coaches to give back to the program that has given them so much.
As serious athletes, young baseball players are exploring different methods to elevate their game to the next level. Working harder, longer, and more importantly smarter, many top young athletes are seeking the guidance of professional trainers to guide them in their development with sports specific training.
One-on-one coaching and training based on an athlete’s strengths and weaknesses is becoming a successful way to supplement training with their teams.
Every athlete is different physically and mentally, and individual programs allow the athlete to work on problem areas specific to them and increasing their overall ability.
Strength, agility, and conditioning with proper exercises and drills not only increase performance but durability as well. The athletes can then join their team and contribute more than ever before.
Wanting to perform your best for the success of the team defines Downers Grove Longshots baseball. The team-oriented, fundamentals-based coaching is lost in today’s world of glory homerun hitting and 90mph fastballs.
Developing fundamentally sound students of the game prepares them well for collegiate baseball and beyond. Parents are proud when their child is asked to bunt in a critical.
The Longshots won’t ruin a pitcher’s arm to win a game. The team is proof that champions can be made with hard work and smart baseball.
